Asilah

My lady friend and I took a trip to Morocco earlier this year, these photos are from a small town on the atlantic coast called Asilah.
The coast feels pretty raw down there, donkeys pulling carts, animal bones scattered all over the beaches, weird red bloody looking rivers, crazy white-capped waves and super gusty wind.
We found Tangier to be a pit(think east hastings in vancouver, but a whole city instead of few streets) and moved on to asilah which was a nice change from the greasy streets and constant badgering we found in the bigger city.
They make some great mint tea too.
Africa, whoa.

One Point Perspective

Remember first learning how to draft things with perspective? How awesome that was? Suddenly things were clear as day and adding depth to a blank page was totally understandable. There was definetly a "whoa" factor when I showed friends my first attempts at it, even the most basic knowledge brought the drawings to that next level.
So this was a recent attempt at some one point perspective... I mean its so nothing, so easy and simple, but its dynamic none the less.
Anyways, an enjoyable, nostalgic drawing experiment.

Quotes III

"Think like a wise man but communicate in the language of the people."

-William Butler Yeats

Totally.

Biking X Drinking

Not cool.
Night before my bud went back up to work in nunavut, I feel for you guy.
Needless to say I walked his bike the rest of the way for him.
Broken bikes, broken noses.

Quotes II

"Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months."

"Whenever people agree with me I always feel I must be wrong."

"Only dull people are brilliant at breakfast."

"Work is the curse of the drinking classes."

"It is only an auctioneer who can equally and impartially admire all schools of art."

"I adore simple pleasures. They are the last refuge of the complex."

"I like persons better than principles, and I like persons with no principles better than anything else in the world."

More one liners from Oscar Wilde, can anyone match the wit on this dead, gay, Irishman?
I doubt it.

Sperm Whale

I just finished this drawing of a sperm whale for John Roche of Fathme records(a client of Fighting), he's getting it tatooed on his forearm. Sperm whales are pretty rough.

Old Illustrations

These are two drawings I found today diggin' through some old stuff, It's half a design for some artist calender to be diplayed at Colette in Paris a few years ago, not sure if it ever happened though... I'm betting it didn't...typical.
...Old man andrew is sitting on my couch with his face in a bottle of wine and just bugged me to give him a shout - www.andrewpommier.com - ehh andrew, you're a fucking bum bud.

Andrew WK

Just got sent these photos yesterday from AWK, Lukas Geronimas and myself(collectively known as Fighting) are working on a few projects with him currently which involve some heavy portraiture. He's quite a character so there are some super gem self-portraits in the series he sent over. If you're not familiar with his music try www.andrewwk.com, very positive, very optimistic, super sweet stuff. Can't till the projects develop further, super stoked to be apart of each others "creative landscape".

FecalFace Exhibit

FecalFace dot com is having their annual art exhibit, I was pleased to be ask to participate in this years event.
Big show, huge opening night, it's up for a month, big closing night, tons of really talented folks on the roster, should be really good.
I'm hoping to make it down to SF for it... 15 hour drive south... who knows, but it should be good times.
Oh, and if you've never checked out www.fecalface.com give it a whirl, its totally funny, smart, stupid, honest, pro-active, and a great place to check out a variety of art related news, interviews, reviews, and links.
While you're there read the interview with Lukas Geronimas and myself about our work as Fighting, conducted and written by our friend and all round inspiring duder Matt Irving(www.delphicollective.com) last september.

Collage Again

Several collages for a book released early this year titled "The Money Boook", it was put together by Matt Cassity.

FIGHTING X CREATURE

New graphic for Creature Skateboards.
This design falls under the Fighting brand as I conceived the idea and drew it in collaboration with Lukas Geronimas, myself the top and he the bottom.
We approached it like a King of Spades card, except replaced the kings for John Bonham and Keith Moon battling out vicious demons skeletons while fighting internal rot and dark waves of evil... or something in that vein.
I mean, why not, this a hesher company right? It deserves to be gnarly.
FIGHTING X CREATURE deck out in august, nice.

LifeTime Collective

Here is a shirt I made for them that was released this spring, its one in a series of three Canadiana themed illustrations that have to do with mulling over age and contemplating our national identity, this one involving a glass of Canadian Club on the rocks. We designed all three so that they can only be viewed acurately from one particular angle, so when the shirt is worn it distorts in interesting ways. It like that Hans Holbein painting "The Ambassadors", you know this one.
The second design is a collaboration between myself and Lukas Geronimas for the LifeTime spring 07 catalogue cover, we also have an interview in the artist section, check it out if you can get your hands on it, nice printing.

Small Sketch

A small illustration I just dug up from late last year.
The sea gets me pretty paranoid.

Work table in my new studio, its quite sturdy.
Its collage season, so I'm knee deep in magazines clippings and exacto blades.
